EasyJet cancelled our flight at the last minute

TWO holidaymakers were forced to miss a wedding and baby scan in Scotland after their flight home was canceled at the last minute.

Declan Lally, 29, and pal Richard, 28, had traveled from Glasgow and Dublin to Faro, Portugal, last Monday.

They pair, from Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, then got a bus to Seville to watch RangersEuropa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

They were set to return from Faro to Bristol on Thursday before getting a connection flight to Glasgow.

But they were left stranded at the Portuguese airport after easyJet canceled the 10.20pm flight at a moment’s notice due to a “technical issue”.

The duo had already checked in online and successfully made it through security, with the flight only showing as canceled at 11pm.

Dorced to spend the night on the airport floor, the flight nightmare saw Declan miss a pal’s wedding and Richard couldn’t be at a baby scan with his partner.

Self-employed barber Declan also lost out on two business days on Friday and Saturday, which had been fully booked.

He told Bristol Live: “I was supposed to be attending my pals’ wedding on Sunday and had to let her down – though I managed to show up very late on Sunday night but I was falling asleep in the car over so wasn’t much of a guest.

“It means she has lost the money she spent for me to attend her wedding, because I didn’t make it in time to see her get married and I missed her meal.”

Due to a high demand in flights for returning Gers fans, Declan and Richard were forced to wait until Saturday night to fly to Liverpool, having stayed at a hotel on Friday.

They then got a taxi to Manchester airport, a train to Carlisle and then a replacement bus to Glasgow.

From Glasgow, they boarded yet another train home to Helensburgh.

Declan was forced to cover all of the costs for the extra flights, taxis, buses, train tickets, hotel and food expenses.

He added: “We had no money left so I had to use my bank card and go into my savings.

“I just feel fortunate I had savings to try and sort something else out and we’re both young boys, but this happened to a couple with a baby and they couldn’t get any baby food or anything. It was a total riot.

“They literally left us stranded with no way to get home for a few days. Nobody to help us.”

Declan claimed that, as easyJet is represented by a third party company in Faro, they struggled to speak to anybody in the hours after their canceled flight.

The stranded passengers only managed to talk with the third party representatives for easyJet at 5.30am the following morning.

But Declan claims the representatives simply showed them a phone number to call easyJet on and did not offer him any reimbursement.

A spokesperson from easyJet said: “We can confirm that this flight EZY6010 from Faro to Bristol was canceled as a result of a technical issue onboard the aircraft due to operate the flight.

“We did all possible to minimize the disruption, helping customers transfer to alternative flights for free, with availability on subsequent easyJet flights from Faro on the same day, and provided overnight hotel accommodation and meals for those who required them.

“Any customers who sourced their own hotel accommodation will be reimbursed for this and any other reasonable expenses and anyone who no longer wished to travel can receive a voucher or a full refund.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority. ”
